Erik Peterson, MD is a distinguished academician, physician, and board-certified dermatologist. Graduating with distinction from the University of Southern California (USC) in the top 5% of his class, he was honored as a Trustee Scholar, National Merit Scholar, Global Scholar, Scientific Discovery Award, and Provost Fellow. He then received his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine, concentrating in dermatologic and plastic surgery. He completed internal medicine training at Mount Sinai West in NYC, followed by a renowned dermatology residency at the University of Miami, where he was elected by his peers and superiors as Chief Resident in Cosmetics. His advanced training continued with a fellowship in alopecia treatment and hair restoration under the world-renowned expert Dr. Jerry Shapiro at NYU, as well as Dr. Antonella Tosti at the University of Miami. 

An accomplished academic, Dr. Peterson has authored numerous studies, peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, particularly in the fields of cutaneous oncology, regenerative aesthetics, inflammatory skin conditions, and hair restoration. Leaning on his degrees in International Relations and Global Health, Dr. Peterson spent time as a researcher at Oxford University, focusing on novel treatments for cholera and malaria in resource-limited settings. His dedication to oncology led to a research fellowship at Ichilov Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv, focusing on pancreatic adenocarcinoma. He is also a frequent lecturer at national and international dermatology conferences, where he presents on cutting-edge topics such as regenerative aesthetics, platelet-rich-plasma, exosomes and growth factors, rosacea and rhinophyma, as well as surgical oncology and skin cancer treatments.

Dr. Peterson was appointed as the Chief Resident of Cosmetics at the University of Miami Department of Dermatology. During his tenure, he facilitated numerous workshops and trainings for fillers and neuromodulators, laser devices, microneedling, and skin cancer excisions and reconstructions. His position led to the start of a program for pro-bono surgical treatment of rhinophyma (a debilitating rosacea condition) at the University of Miami. He also led a pro-bono aesthetics clinic at the Greater Miami Skin and Laser Center in Miami Beach, Florida. He is a current fellow of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, focusing on laser medicine and surgical aesthetic enhancements.

Presenter & Educator
Dr. Peterson is a frequent presenter at international and national dermatological and cosmetic surgery conferences. Most recently, Dr. Peterson was invited by Dr. Antonella Tosti to speak at the ‘Hair, Nail, and Anti-Aging’ Conference in Capri, Italy, where he presented on Novel Aesthetic Treatments in Regenerative Medicine. At the World Congress for Hair Research in Barcelona, Spain, Dr. Peterson lectured on forms of chronic hair loss/alopecia. He is a frequent speaker at the American Academy of Dermatology annual meeting, discussing diseases of the nails, as well as developing new tools to help educate patients on common dermatological conditions.Dr. Peterson’s background as an educator and researcher enables him to help patients choose the best options among the many new treatments currently advertised, some of which can cause much more harm than good.

Dr. Peterson is a co-founder of the non-profit GlobeMed, a chapter of which focuses on reducing maternal mortality rates in an extremely resource limited part of Ghana. He has also been a consultant for several health-tech start-ups, helping develop a tool to assist primary care doctors in identification of potentially cancerous moles, as well as a heart-monitoring app developed with Stanford University. He has also consulted for LGBTQ-healthcare advocacy groups to promote equitable health literacy and access.

Personal Life

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Peterson has contributed as a writer for National Geographic, traveling to Laos to write a documentary on the intersection of Eastern and Western medicine. He is also a co-founder of a nonprofit organization in Ghana, dedicated to reducing maternal mortality rates. He has worked with several non-profits in Rwanda and Uganda, teaching health classes and youth programs in underserved communities. He has been a consultant for several medical-technology startups, focused on early cancer detection/prevention, as well as non-profits focused on LGBTQ healthcare. He is also a published poet, an accomplished violinist, and former actor, who dabbles in painting, sculpture, and clothing design.
