One of the most common cosmetic complains is dark spots and blemishes. Younger patients often have dark spots as a results of their acne. Female patients often have melasma which is usually caused by a combination of their hormones and sun exposure, they often have family history of melasma.
As one get older sun spots are the most common cause of dark spots as well as benign skin growths called keratosis. So dark spots are a universal problem effecting a wide spectrum of patients in different age groups. In the past we only had a few bleaching creams that almost never worked.
