Injectable Fillers

Injectable Fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane, Radiesse, Sulptra) are used to rejuvenate the aging face. As one ages, there is a significant loss of fat in the face. As a result of this, the youthful, round appearance of the face starts to disappear.  Fillers are used to re-create the missing volume and achieve a non-invasive natural “mini face-lift” appearance. Fillers can also be injected into deep creases and other depressions in the skin to fill in these defects.

Question: What are the most common side effects of injectable fillers?

Answer: Bruising is the most common side effect, which can last from 5 – 14 days. Asymmetry is the second most common side effect, and can be fixed in a follow up visit. Swelling is region dependent, and is the most significant when treating the lips. Swelling usually lasts about 72 hours.

How long does filler last?

Answer: It depends on the filler material used, as well as the location it is injected. On average it lasts 4-6 months.

Is it painful to receive filler injections?

Answer: Most patients are not bothered by filler injections; however, some patients report that it is mildly uncomfortable. The new formulations of most fillers have added a numbing agent.

Can you “un-do” filler if I am not happy with the outcome?

Answer: Yes. An enzyme can dissolve certain fillers and your appearance will return to what it was before you received treatment.
